Mother nature is amazing

The natural world around us is incredible. And to prove it, we’ve got ten amazing facts that’ll blow your mind.

  1. 40% of bottled water is actually just tap water. And it comes in single-use plastic? Even more reason to buy a reusable bottle.
  2. The water on Earth is the same that was around during dinosaur times – only a tiny fraction of it has escaped into space. That’s right, you’re drinking pterodactyl pee. How does it taste?
  3. Did you know there are 12 times more trees on Earth than there are stars in the Milky Way? That’s pretty tree-rific.
  4. Also, did you know 20% of Earth’s oxygen is produced by the Amazon rainforest? So, stop cutting it down!
  5. It takes two years for a pineapple to grow. Better think twice before you consider wasting any of that spiky fruit in future.
  6. The tallest ever sunflower grew to 7.76 metres high … that’s bigger than most two-storey houses.
  7. Bamboo is the fastest-growing woody plant in the world and can grow 35 inches in a single day. If only there were more pandas to eat it.
  8. The average strawberry has 200 seeds and it’s the only fruit that bears its seeds on the outside. No wonder you always get them stuck in your teeth.
  9. The smell of freshly cut grass is actually a plant distress call. Feeling guilty for all the pleasure you take from smelling it now, aren’t you?
  10. 90% of the foods we eat come from just 30 plants. And most of that’s just potato.
